Volunteer Opportunities

To volunteer or to find out more about any of the following activities, please send an email to polly_shaw@verizon.net.

Data Entry

VAN (voter activation network) – maintained by the Democratic party—provides record of all voters in recent elections. Output data includes lists of voters by address or by phone numbers and by which elections they voted in, etc. Used as a basis for GOTV (get out the vote) calls, creating walk lists/call lists, mailing lists, form letters. Input by volunteers includes results of door-to-door canvassing, changes in party affiliation, results of phone calls, etc. etc. Large “data dumps” are performed by the Maine Democratic Party for input of election results and city voter lists. A training session of less than one hour will be provided for volunteers before doing data entry.

Phone Calling

A group of volunteers is needed to call Democrats on a regular basis to get them out to activities such as our monthly meetings and the November election and phone canvassing on subjects that the MDP (Maine Democratic Party) decides to participate in, e.g., last summer a group of us called over one weekend to determine what issues are important to voters while others went door-to-door with the same script.

Neighborhood Canvassing

Volunteers are needed to walk in downtown neighborhoods of Bath, talk to active Democrats about key races and the issues that concern voters. No political experience is needed - we provide the list of homes and a script to read from. It's fun, energizing and gets in some exercise too!

Work at campaign office

The Sag Dems have opened up a campaign office for the current campaign period. The Field Organizer for Sagadahoc County, Kim Ballard, is working out of that location and will be organizing phone banks to be conducted there. Please call her at 266-8450 if you can spend some time in making calls to voters or in doing data entry.

Sherry Masters is the office coordinator and will line up volunteers to handle the incoming phone calls. She is looking for contributions and loans of office furniture and supplies. Please call her at the office: 386-0108 to let her know what you can contribute.

Ward Captains

This is a great opportunity to meet your Democratic neighbors within your voting ward. House parties are one idea that’s been suggested—show short documentaries, organize behind a political candidate of your choice, get your neighbors interested in the campaign.

Ward captains will work with the party’s field organizers to organize door-to-door canvassing and literature drops. Ward Captains are still needed for wards 3 and 5.

Fund-raising

Throughout the year we sell cotton shopping bags and children's books to raise money for the Bath Democratic Committee. We need people interested in developing ideas for fundraising and how to promote the items we sell.

Bath Dems participated again this year at Mayfair Days and, despite the rain, earned some much needed funds. Many left over items were retained in a certain large garage for another Bath Dems yard sale later in the year. Anyone need a fantastic Xmas tree?

We need volunteers to help maintain content on this web site. For comments, suggestions or to volunteer, contact webmaster.

Signs/fairs

Volunteers to put up (and take down) political signs when they are ready. Volunteers to participate in fairs/events (hold up signs, pass out literature).
